Game Types

Sumo Digital see their selves a racing games company, this means most their games are mainly arcade style games which include a scoring system of such sort. The age types Sumo Digital specialise in are :

  • Arcade Action.
  • Driving.
  • Licensed IP.
  • Arcade Sports.
  • Platforms.
Sumo Digital have recently been asked by Sony to  produced Little Big Planet 3 for Sony, this is PlayStations most imaginative franchise and they have given the production rights to Sumo Digital in terms of making the games for them, thus increasing their technology in terms of game production.

Sumo Digital have also produced the latest Sega All Stars Raging game, this is a family based game that allows multiple users to interact with each other to have an exhilarating battle race. Sumo Digital were asked by Sega to produce this game, who are also another big gaming conglomerate. In terms of technology Sega aren't as technically gifted as Sony so there is less equipment that can be used during the product process.

Games on Multi Platforms

Sumo digital as a company have produced quite  lot of games on multi platforms, this is due to the fact that the games that are requested to be put on multi platforms are in a high demand, therefore it has become an essential of their to produce these games on the requested platforms. Looking at the most popular multi platform game that Sumo produced I can see that Sonic & All Star Racing Transformed was the highest in demand to be produced as a multi platform game. The reason for this is because this game is in high demand by their target audience which is stereotypically young children, so knowing this clients have requested that this game has to be produced on multi platforms.

Regulatory Bodies

PEGI (Pan European Game Information) are the legal team that are responsible for giving games different types of certificate warnings on the front cover of all games products. It is important for companies such as sumo to match the requirements of PEGI before they release a game to their target audience. PEGI make sure to separate inappropriate content for younger audiences in order to keep games appropriate for children below the games of 12.

From researching Sumo Digital I have come to an understanding that this is a family orientated games company, which means they specialise in creating games for younger children. This would mean the PEGI certificate they would aim at to meet the needs of their target audience would be for people ages 3+ and 7+, this is due to the fact that this style of games is appropriate for families who enjoy playing games with younger children.

Developmental Software

For Sumo digitals racing games they used Drivatar Technology, this was the main engine used when creating games such as Forza on the previous gen consoles such as Xbox 360. This was done in order to actually run these games on the consoles for smooth gameplay and visuals. However when making sports games Sumo digital tend to use the Sega Lindbergh arcade system, the primary platform they aimed to put their sports games on was yet again aimed at the Xbox 360.
