LO2 Assassin's Creed Unity Review From Web And Magazine

Assassin’s Creed Unity Review

The game I have chosen to base my reviews upon is Assassin's Creed Unity, this is due to the fact that it s quite a recent game in terms of its saga and there will be a few new reviews I can watch in terms of looking for reviews for them

Magazine

·      The target audience for ‘Assassin’s Creed Unity’ mainly people in their early teens and over.

·      The main character of the assassins creed unity game is Arno Dorian who is an assassin born during the French revolution

·

Web

·      On a technical level the 18th century France setting is a marvel, but the story is a bit bland.
·      The atmosphere of the game is realistic and a new experience.
·      There are a few technical glitches when it comes to stealth during the game
·      This is a revenge story, with a dark setting.
·      The various amount of way you can defeat your target is numerous throughout the game.
·      The gameplay consists of co-op missions, which require you to work with your friends. This is important because it requires you to communicate in order to succeed.

Comparison

The comparison I have made from Looking at both reviews is that this Assassin’s Creed game is a step forward in terms of the gaming technology used when producing this game, I have also come to learn that both the reviewers have a clear idea on the narrative in terms of fitting in with the diegesis of this game by saying that this game takes place in 18th century France during the civil war.

I have also come to understand that in terms of reviewing itself the magazine review is more one sided, meaning they tend to only focus of the positives of the game without including any f the bad features of the game. But looking at the web review I can see that they have explained and expanded on the positives and the negatives of the game, by speaking about how the technology glitches from times to time, and that the controls can be unresponsive from time to time.

When both the web and the magazine reviewers talked on the narrative of the game i came to understand that they both enjoyed the idea of a vengeance based game, due to the fat that Ubisoft were trying to recreate the same experience that they gave use with Ezio Auditore back in Assassin's Creed II, therefore creating a closer connection with the protagonist of the game. Although the web review I watched said this was a major weak point in the game, due to the fact that they didn't allow us as the audience to get to know the other support characters within the game well enough to build a close relationship to them either.

Both the reviewers constantly speak about how the game itself have upgraded and that it actually requires people to strategies in order to accomplish some of the missions, this is due to the fact that the process you undergo to achieve your objective isn't set right in front of you, this means players will have to interact mentally in order to achieve success. Also the new climbing feature was praised, this is due to the how much it has progressed compared to the pervious games, this new climb command allows users to decide weather or not they want to stay on the high ground or stay low.

In terms of the recommendations the reviewers had two different opinions on this, the magazine reviewer was quite bias in terms of the recommendation of the game. compared to the magazine review you can see that the web review is a bit both sided due to the fact that they enjoy certain aspects of this game to an extent but there are some aspects of the game which they didn't like, and for this reason they decided to recommend this game to other depending on if they're on doing it to support the saga.

LO1: Skyrim Review

The game I have decided to review myself is Skyrim The Elder Scrolls V, this is due to the fact that I believe there are quite a lot of aspects of this game that I can review.

Genre

The style of genre that Skyrim the elder scrolls V is is an action RPG game, this is due to the fact that it allows you to create your own customisable character undergoing the story of the dragon born . Another reason why Skyrim is part of this genre is due to the fact that many of the decisions you make an effect different aspects of the diegesis, this could relate to the main story quest or in some terms the side quests.

Narrative/Storyline

In terms of the narrative structure of Skyrim The Elder Scrolls V, we have come to an understanding that the diegesis of the game is set in a dystopian  environment due to pervious civil war that took place between the rebellious stormcloaks and the imperial legion. But also within this storyline we come to discover that dragons have also returned to the land of skyrim, this makes the overall objective of the game to find out and discover why they have returned along with the dragonborn.

Production Process

Characterisation

Bethesda really got it right when it came to the production of creating your own character within the diegesis of he game. By allowing the audience to produce their own custom character we feel cooer to the games diegesis therefore being more attached to the game. The character you create is know as the dragon born and he is the heir to the thum, this means he has a link between the ancient language of the dragons.

Throughout this game you will encounter a few characters that will fight beside you throughout the diegesis of this game , therefore building relationships within the game. The first main character you encounter in The Elder Scrolls V is the Jarl of Whiterun, during the gem you begin to get a better understanding that depending on the decisions you make it could effect the ending of the war to come in the game. This connects with the audience of the game due to the fact that they will feel more involved within the story by giving out commands that could shape the future of the land of Skyrim.

The characterisation matches with the genre of the Elder Scrolls V, this is due to the fact that it is an action RPG game. the good thing they did about building the characters to fit the genre was giving them their own dialog based on what your character says, this really fits into the whole RPG side of the genre by not limiting characters speech by small lines of dialog.

Gameplay

Throughout the whole of The Elder Scrolls V you will encounter a large range of challenges within the land of Skyrim that can either effect you physically or mentally. The challenges range from physical bruit strength task like 'Kill the dragon' to 'Solve the puzzle', this allows the player to become more interactive within the digests of the game by allowing him/her to feel the verisimilitude of the game.

When playing the Elder Scrolls V I believe that the most difficult challenge you can experience head on is fighting a dragon. This is due to them being unscripted, this means they can freely roam the land of Skyrim meaning that you will encounter then at any point in time and sometimes its unexpected. during some conditions during the game this could either benefit you during battle or leave you do an incredible disadvantage.

The elements that I believe what made this game successful is the fact that it was an open world RPG, this really builds the verisimilitude of the game building a natural environment around

LO1: Platform Technology

Sumo Digital

Structure

Platform Technology

Sumo Digital as a gaming company specialise in various gaming platforms to meet their target audiences requirements. This is required as Sumo Digital are one of the UK's leading game developers. The platforms that Sumo Digital are: Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PS Vita, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo DS, along with mob line and tablet platforms.

During 2003 Sumo Digital gained an investment that went towards the tools, technology and staff. This was done to ensure that Sumo Digital as a company are able to produce quality products that their target audience of all ages are able to play.

Game Types

Sumo Digital see their selves a racing games company, this means most their games are mainly arcade style games which include a scoring system of such sort. The age types Sumo Digital specialise in are :

  • Arcade Action.
  • Driving.
  • Licensed IP.
  • Arcade Sports.
  • Platforms.
Sumo Digital have recently been asked by Sony to  produced Little Big Planet 3 for Sony, this is PlayStations most imaginative franchise and they have given the production rights to Sumo Digital in terms of making the games for them, thus increasing their technology in terms of game production.

Sumo Digital have also produced the latest Sega All Stars Raging game, this is a family based game that allows multiple users to interact with each other to have an exhilarating battle race. Sumo Digital were asked by Sega to produce this game, who are also another big gaming conglomerate. In terms of technology Sega aren't as technically gifted as Sony so there is less equipment that can be used during the product process.

Games on Multi Platforms

Sumo digital as a company have produced quite  lot of games on multi platforms, this is due to the fact that the games that are requested to be put on multi platforms are in a high demand, therefore it has become an essential of their to produce these games on the requested platforms. Looking at the most popular multi platform game that Sumo produced I can see that Sonic & All Star Racing Transformed was the highest in demand to be produced as a multi platform game. The reason for this is because this game is in high demand by their target audience which is stereotypically young children, so knowing this clients have requested that this game has to be produced on multi platforms.

Regulatory Bodies

PEGI (Pan European Game Information) are the legal team that are responsible for giving games different types of certificate warnings on the front cover of all games products. It is important for companies such as sumo to match the requirements of PEGI before they release a game to their target audience. PEGI make sure to separate inappropriate content for younger audiences in order to keep games appropriate for children below the games of 12.

From researching Sumo Digital I have come to an understanding that this is a family orientated games company, which means they specialise in creating games for younger children. This would mean the PEGI certificate they would aim at to meet the needs of their target audience would be for people ages 3+ and 7+, this is due to the fact that this style of games is appropriate for families who enjoy playing games with younger children.

Developmental Software

For Sumo digitals racing games they used Drivatar Technology, this was the main engine used when creating games such as Forza on the previous gen consoles such as Xbox 360. This was done in order to actually run these games on the consoles for smooth gameplay and visuals. However when making sports games Sumo digital tend to use the Sega Lindbergh arcade system, the primary platform they aimed to put their sports games on was yet again aimed at the Xbox 360.

LO1: Task 2

The effect that using second person address within the review has on my perception as the reader is a feel that I am able to do all the stuff they're saying. By having used second person throughout this review, it feels as if the writer is addressing the reader directly therefore building a stronger and closer connection towards me as the reader and it feels like they're informing me directly on how the game feels.

Taking this review into mind I would buy this game, this is due tot the fact that the review constantly expresses how Forza 5 is a step up from Forza 4, this is one of the most convince things they said during the review. Ultimately I would buy this game but I don't have the hardware required to play this game.
